KUCHING (Nov 10): In a powerful and emotional moment, Philomena Dexclyn Siar, a 41-year-old digital administrative officer from Kuching, clinched the gold medal in the Ladies Sport Physique Age Over-35 Class at the 15th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports (WBPF) World Championships in Addu City, Maldives.
Competing against strong contenders, including Simara Chumchuen from Thailand and Nyamzul Zaijid from Mongolia, Philomena triumphed on the second day of the competition last Saturday, securing her place as the champion.
Earlier in the competition, she earned a silver medal in the Women’s Sport Physique 165cm category, where she went head-to-head with top athletes, including Wong Ka Yuk of Hong Kong.
“I was so surprised, as the competition was really tight this year. Still, I am thankful for being able to win my first WBPF World’s gold and silver medals,” Philomena shared. “Last year in South Korea, I got bronze,” she added, reflecting on her previous achievements.
What made her victory even more special was the dedication she gave it. Philomena presented the gold and silver medals as a birthday gift to her father, Siar Manyus, who will turn 69 on November 12. “He is my pillar of strength. I’m so thankful to be able to present to him my medals for his special day,” she said, filled with gratitude.
Philomena, together with Sarawakians Dr Malvern Abdullah and Azri Asmat Sefri, was part of the 15-member Malaysian contingent at the championship. The team had an impressive showing, bringing home three golds, three silvers, and two bronzes.
In addition to Philomena’s triumph, Ahmad Faiz Ariffin and Zmarul Al Adam Pulutan Abdullah also won gold in their respective categories – Men’s Athletics Physique Up To 175cm and Men’s Bodybuilding 85kg.
The Malaysian team, which competed at the Canareef Resort Maldives, was managed by Major Syed Fairus Syed Ali and supported by coaches Datuk Mohd Syarul Azman Mahen Abdullah, Buda Anchah, and judge Zaidi Ahmad.
The international tournament saw over 500 athletes and officials from 55 countries battling for top honors, showcasing remarkable talent and dedication in the world of bodybuilding and physique sports.
