SRI AMAN: The Sri Aman Division is set for significant growth with the implementation of 70 projects under the Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA), valued at RM1.4 billion.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that these projects will span all districts within the division, covering vital areas such as road infrastructure, bridges, jetties, flood mitigation systems, and water drainage. Additionally, the projects include tourism facilities, handicraft centres, sports complexes, coffee plantations, and fish farming initiatives.
“These initiatives will accelerate development in Sarawak and bring about more effective implementation compared to traditional top-down approaches,” Abang Johari stated. His speech was delivered by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Sri Aman Benak Festival.
He credited the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government for adopting a grassroots-focused development strategy. By establishing agencies like SADA, Sarawak has been divided into several development zones, ensuring projects are tailored to the specific needs of each region.
Under the leadership of Datuk Seri Rohani Karim, SADA plays a pivotal role in driving localised growth. Other agencies, such as the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), and Ulu Rajang Development Agency (URDA), also contribute to Sarawak’s comprehensive development efforts.
“The approach in Sarawak mirrors that of Peninsular Malaysia, where 11 states independently manage their development programmes. Our agencies work on localised plans to ensure no region is left behind,” he added.
This strategic decentralisation promises to not only speed up development but also bring tangible benefits to the people of Sri Aman and beyond.
