Kuching Water Crisis DAP Urges Swift Action Amid KUTS Project Delays

Kuching Water Crisis: DAP Urges Swift Action Amid KUTS Project Delays

KUCHING, Dec 11 – Residents in Kuching continue to grapple with water supply interruptions caused by the ongoing Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project. Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman’s special assistant, Michael Kong, has called on the Kuching Water Board (KWB) and other stakeholders to take immediate action to resolve the issue.

The interruptions, which began on December 4, have affected multiple areas in Kuching. The disruptions are expected to persist, with additional scheduled interruptions slated for today and Friday (Dec 13).

“This prolonged issue has caused immense inconvenience to the public and casts doubt on the authorities’ efficiency in managing essential services,” Kong said in a statement today.

While Kong acknowledged the importance of infrastructure development for Kuching’s future, he emphasised the need to prioritise minimal disruptions to essential services like water supply.

“Water is a basic necessity, and any disruption affects the daily lives of the people. The authorities must take this matter seriously and work towards a swift resolution,” he added.

Kong also urged KWB to enhance its preparedness and coordination in handling similar situations in the future. He stressed that prolonged interruptions are unacceptable and should not become a recurring issue.

“The people of Kuching deserve reliable access to basic utilities. KWB has a responsibility to ensure efficient service delivery and minimise the impact of such disruptions,” he said.

Residents hope the relevant authorities will take decisive action to restore stable water supply as soon as possible, ensuring that future projects are executed with better planning and consideration for the public’s needs.
