The sombre gathering came a day after Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, confirmed the identity of the decomposed body found in a Tabuan Jaya drain on Sunday. The prime suspect, a man in his 20s, was arrested on Saturday and led the authorities to the location where the victim’s body was abandoned. Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata revealed that the suspect confessed to committing the crime for financial gain, intending to pawn the victim’s jewellery—a gold bracelet and earrings—to fund his trip to Cambodia to watch the Malaysia-Cambodia match in the 2024 Mitsubishi Electric ASEAN Cup tournament.
