KUCHING (Jan 21): Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has successfully obtained approval from the Sarawak Premier’s Office for two key development projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2024, with a combined funding of RM330,000.

The approved initiatives include Phase Two of the Kota Sentosa Town Square upgrade, allocated RM300,000, and the resurfacing of carparks at the Seventh Mile Penrissen Road Community Association, costing RM30,000.

“The first phase of upgrading Kota Sentosa Town Square, costing RM500,000, addressed critical infrastructure needs. However, the local community requested additional enhancements, such as louvres, awnings, a hall floor extension with covered drains, stage railings, and updated wiring to replace faulty electrical systems,” said Yap in a statement.

The resurfacing of the Seventh Mile Penrissen Road Community Association carpark aims to tackle issues like potholes and uneven surfaces. Yap highlighted that the community hall, which also functions as a funeral parlour, supports 10 to 15 families monthly, making the upgrades essential for better accessibility.

Following the approval, Yap, accompanied by Penghulu Lai Boon Khee, Kapitan Lee Tho Fung, and officers from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), inspected the project sites to review the proposed upgrading works.

“The site visit was organized by the Engineering Department to finalize the scope of works and bill of quantities. I have urged MPP officers to expedite this process so that both projects can begin promptly, benefiting the local communities,” Yap stated.

Yap assured constituents that he and the local leaders would continue to coordinate with MPP to prevent delays. He also emphasized his commitment to future people-centric RTP initiatives aimed at upgrading facilities and infrastructure in Kota Sentosa.
