SARATOK – A devastating fire broke out in Taman Seroja, Saratok, earlier today, completely destroying a single-storey house while causing minor damage to a neighbouring home.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 11.57 am, immediately dispatching a team of firefighters from the Saratok station to the scene. Upon arrival, Senior Fire Officer II Abdul Rahman Sabi reported that two single-storey permanent houses were affected by the blaze, with one house entirely consumed by flames and the other sustaining damage to its kitchen roof.
Firefighters acted swiftly to control the situation, using water from a nearby fire hydrant to douse the flames. Their efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading further, and operations were officially concluded by 2 pm.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the total losses incurred.
Residents in the area were alarmed by the sudden blaze, with some attempting to assist before firefighters arrived. A neighbour, who witnessed the incident, described the fire as intense, with thick smoke visible from a distance.
This fire serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in residential areas. Homeowners are urged to ensure their electrical wiring is in good condition and to have fire extinguishers readily available.
The authorities advise residents to remain vigilant and report any fire hazards immediately to prevent similar incidents in the future.
