MIRI – A fatal collision involving three vehicles has claimed the life of a young motorcyclist in the Permyjaya area, prompting an ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The crash occurred at approximately 6.30pm on Friday along Jalan Indah 2, involving a pick-up truck and two motorcycles travelling in opposite directions.
According to Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, initial inquiries suggest the four-wheel drive vehicle, operated by a 45-year-old local man, veered into the oncoming lane before impact.
One rider, aged 21, was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders. The second motorcyclist, 32, and the pick-up driver escaped without physical injury.
Authorities confirmed the case is being examined under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses causing death through dangerous or reckless driving.
Inspector Nor Afifah Nordin, the designated traffic investigation officer, has appealed for witnesses or individuals with relevant information to contact her directly on 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or to visit the nearest police station.
The deceased has been identified as a food delivery rider, a role that has seen increased visibility on Sarawak’s roads in recent years.
