15 Arrested in AADK Sibu’s Operation Perdana to Curb Drug Abuse

15 Arrested in AADK Sibu’s Operation Perdana to Curb Drug Abuse

SIBU – The Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) has successfully detained 15 individuals in a two-day integrated operation known as Operation Perdana No. 5/2025, held from 22 to 23 October 2025, as part of its ongoing fight against drug abuse in the district.

The operation, which involved nine officers and members from AADK Sibu, targeted several locations identified as hotspots for drug activities around Sibu town. The coordinated effort was part of a proactive initiative to detect, detain, and assist individuals involved in substance abuse by placing them in treatment and rehabilitation programmes under AADK.

According to AADK Sibu, the operation aligns with the agency’s mission under the Drug and Substance Addicts and Abusers (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, recently approved with new provisions aimed at enhancing rehabilitation and community-based recovery efforts.

Out of the 15 individuals apprehended, 11 tested positive for Methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu, during a preliminary urine screening. The suspects, aged between 19 and 50, included one woman.

AADK Sibu said all those detained are currently being investigated under the relevant sections of the Act. The agency emphasised that the operation not only seeks to identify and assist addicts but also to weaken the illicit supply and demand chain for drugs within the targeted areas of Sibu.

“AADK will continue to intensify operations like this as part of our long-term strategy towards achieving the national goal of ‘Controlled Drugs 2025’,” said a spokesperson from AADK Sibu.

The agency also called on the community to cooperate by reporting any drug-related activities and to support individuals undergoing treatment to reintegrate into society as productive citizens.
