New Biography Honours Abang Johari’s Leadership and Sarawak’s Modern Progress

KUCHING: A newly published biography titled “Abang Johari – Sarawak’s First Premier, A Political Biography” has been officially launched, marking an important step in documenting the leadership journey of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg. The book, produced by the Dayak Cultural Foundation (DCF), is seen as a meaningful tribute to the Premier’s long-standing commitment to Sarawak’s development and transformation.

Sarawak Deputy Premier and DCF Chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said the biography serves as a token of appreciation from the Dayak community, recognising the Premier’s unwavering support and continuous dedication to the people.

According to him, it is important that the Premier’s contributions be properly recorded and preserved, as they reflect a significant chapter in the state’s modern political and social progress.

“The Dayak Cultural Foundation believes that the experience and leadership of the Honourable Premier should be accurately documented and honoured. This is to recognise and preserve his monumental contributions to the rich history of Sarawak,” he said during his speech.

He added that the biography will help current and future generations understand the leadership values and achievements that have shaped today’s Sarawak.

“This book provides the public with deep insight into his experiences and principles. These are the values that have contributed to a strong, politically stable, harmonious, and prosperous Sarawak. We believe this biography will stand as an enduring legacy,” he said.

The launch ceremony was officiated by the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, at the Dayak Cultural Foundation headquarters on Friday.

Also present was the Premier himself, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

The event was attended by several senior state leaders and dignitaries, including the wife of the Governor of Sarawak, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi; the Premier’s daughter, Dayang Norjihan; Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Profesor Dr Sim Kui Hian; Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; and former Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu Numpang, together with their spouses.

Also present were the Chairman of Tun Jugah Foundation and DCF Trustee, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Leonard Linggi; Sarawak Government Ministers; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Ministers; and other invited guests.

The publication of this biography marks yet another milestone in honouring Sarawak’s leadership journey, reflecting the state’s strong respect for its history while continuing to move forward with confidence.
