Abang Johari to Retain PBB President Post Unopposed for 2025-2027 Term

Abang Johari to Retain PBB President Post Unopposed for 2025-2027 Term

KUCHING (Feb 11) – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is set to continue as Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president for the 2025-2027 term after being confirmed unopposed.

According to PBB election committee chairman Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah, no other nominations were submitted for the top position when nominations closed on November 7, 2024. He announced this during a press conference at PBB headquarters in Jalan Bako today.

“The posts of two deputy presidents and two senior vice presidents will also be uncontested during the party election, which will take place at the PBB Convention from February 14 to 16 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK),” said Awang Bemee.

He explained that this outcome resulted from resolutions passed by all 82 PBB branches across Sarawak.

Deputy Presidents and Senior Vice Presidents Remain Unchanged
Awang Bemee confirmed that Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will retain their roles as deputy presidents. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusuf and Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom will continue as senior vice presidents.

This development comes as no surprise, as PBB secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi had hinted at it following a PBB supreme council meeting chaired by Abang Johari on January 27. All 82 branches had unanimously called for the current leadership to be retained.

However, the positions of vice presidents and lower-ranking posts in the party’s supreme council will be open for contest. PBB has seven vice president positions—four for the Bumiputera wing and three for the Pesaka wing.

The three-day PBB Convention will see the participation of 3,213 delegates and observers, including representatives from the Women’s, Youth, and newly formed Belia wings for members aged 18 to 28.
