Japanese Dance Sensation Avantgardey to Debut in Borneo at ACG Concert
KUCHING, SARAWAK – The vibrant world of anime, comics, and games (ACG) is set to reach new heights in Borneo as the internationally acclaimed Japanese dance group Avantgardey prepares for their first-ever performance in the region. The Band Lab (Persatuan Wind Orkestra Kuching) will host the landmark event, ‘The ACG Concert,’ at Stadium Perpaduan Petra Jaya on 31 January 2026.
Building on the success of previous concerts, “An Anime Symphony” (2023) and “An ACG Symphony” (2024), this year’s production promises to be Borneo’s largest full-orchestra ACG stadium concert. Attendees will witness a powerhouse 60-piece orchestra performing alongside professional vocalists, dancers, and a 50-member choir from Dolce Chanticleer.
Avantgardey, known globally for their viral dance routines and appearances as finalists on America’s Got Talent, will headline the concert. The 17-member troupe, famous for their retro-style school uniforms, precision choreography, and signature bobbed hairstyles, has also been recognised by Vogue Japan as one of the “Persons of the Year.” Their performance in Kuching marks a significant cultural exchange, blending Japanese contemporary art with live orchestral music for the first time in Borneo.
Jesmond Siew, President of The Band Lab, said the inclusion of Avantgardey highlights Kuching’s growing stature as a cultural destination. “Their eccentricity and precision perfectly capture the energy of ACG culture. This is more than a concert; it is a world-class celebration of creativity and cultural fusion,” he remarked.
Audiences can expect a two-hour immersive experience featuring soundtracks from global anime hits such as Naruto, Haikyuu, Demon Slayer, and Studio Ghibli classics including My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, and Howl’s Moving Castle. The performance will be enhanced with cinematic lighting and pyrotechnics, creating a truly “Beyond Epic” atmosphere.
Organisers are also encouraging fans to participate in cosplay, turning the stadium into a living celebration of ACG culture. Early Bird tickets are available exclusively via Ticket2U until 31 December 2025, offering fans the chance to secure seats at the best rates.
The Band Lab continues its mission to advance music education and cultural exchange in Sarawak, bringing world-class performances to local audiences while fostering international musical relations through initiatives like its Japan sister branch and the Sarawak International Band & Orchestra Festival (SIBOFest).
