The event was officiated by Borneo Summit Member of Parliament, Datuk Willie Mongin, who praised the collaboration between corporate entities and rural communities, calling it a crucial step toward long-term socio-economic empowerment.

“Even a salary of RM10,000 is meaningless if not managed properly. But if we have blessings, even little can go far,” he said. He also highlighted growing concerns in rural areas regarding financial mismanagement, such as illegal gambling and unregulated lending, stressing the importance of financial education.

AFFIN Bank Sarawak’s Director of Banking, Victor Liew, reinforced the bank’s commitment to community upliftment, stating, “We are more than just a bank. We are community partners, dream enablers, and agents of change.”

  • Distribution of 150 basic food baskets to underprivileged families
  • Provision of 100 education kits for local children
  • AFFIN Kenyalang Card registration and bank account opening services
  • Financial literacy sessions focusing on money management and fraud prevention

As a gesture of continued support, Datuk Willie Mongin also announced a RM200,000 allocation to upgrade the tanjok (riverbank area) and pledged backing for the establishment of the Segubenuk Association Cultural Center, aimed at preserving local heritage and supporting the younger generation.

The programme underscores how partnerships between corporations, government, and grassroots communities can drive sustainable and inclusive development in rural Sarawak.
