KUALA LUMPUR – His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has pledged to build a new mosque for residents of Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur, underscoring his dedication to community welfare and religious development.
The announcement was made during an audience with Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, at Istana Bukit Tunku.
Also present was TPr. Hj. Rosli bin Nordin, Director of the Town Planning Department of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
The mosque will be constructed on a two-acre site near the Batu Muda People’s Housing Project (PPR), a densely populated area where residents have long awaited a dedicated place of worship.
Sultan Ibrahim expressed his personal commitment to the project, stating: “I have long had a desire to provide a mosque for the residents of Kuala Lumpur and after discussing with the Mayor, today on a blessed Friday, this desire can be realised.”
His Majesty further emphasised that all costs associated with the construction will be borne personally by him, reflecting his hands-on approach to community development.
The mosque’s design will be modelled on the Kampung Mahmoodiah Mosque in Johor Bahru, a structure known for its traditional yet functional architecture.
“This mosque will hopefully be beneficial for everyone, in this world and the hereafter, In Shaa Allah,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
The King’s initiative comes at a time when Kuala Lumpur’s urban communities are experiencing rapid growth, with increasing demand for religious and social facilities.
The Batu Muda mosque is expected to serve not only as a place of worship but also as a centre for community activities, education, and social cohesion.
Local leaders have welcomed the announcement, noting that the project will significantly improve the quality of life for residents in the area.
The mosque is anticipated to become a landmark of faith and unity, symbolising the monarchy’s role in supporting the spiritual and social needs of the people.
