KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi upon his arrival at the Bunga Raya Complex at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for a state visit to Malaysia.

In a statement shared after the presentation of the Fifth MADANI Budget, Anwar said the visit was made at the invitation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Malaysia and Egypt to review the progress of their bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and international developments.

Anwar said a bilateral meeting was scheduled for the following day, during which both leaders would assess existing cooperation and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.

The programme is also expected to include the exchange of several memorandums of understanding between Malaysia and Egypt, signalling further efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries.

“God willing, tomorrow we will hold a bilateral meeting to assess the progress of cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues, in addition to witnessing the exchange of several memorandums of understanding between Malaysia and Egypt,” Anwar said.

The Egyptian president’s visit highlights the diplomatic engagement between Malaysia and Egypt, two countries that maintain relations across a range of bilateral and international matters.

The planned talks are intended to provide both sides with an opportunity to review ongoing cooperation and consider areas where engagement can be developed further.

The exchange of memorandums of understanding is also expected to form part of the official programme.

Anwar’s welcome message was published following the Federal Budget presentation, as Malaysia continued its official engagements with the visiting Egyptian leader.

The state visit centres on high-level discussions between the two governments, with the bilateral meeting expected to address cooperation as well as regional and international issues. Further details on the agreements to be exchanged were not included in Anwar’s announcement.

The visit forms part of Malaysia’s diplomatic engagement with Egypt and offers both governments a platform to discuss shared interests and the future direction of their relationship. — Sarawak Daily
