SIBU – The Civil Defence Basic Course for Zone 4 Sarawak, Series 1/2026, concluded successfully at Camp Junaco, Border Regiment (6RS), after two days of intensive training held from 18 to 19 April 2026.
The programme brought together volunteer members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) from across Zone 4, with the aim of enhancing their knowledge, skills, and preparedness for emergency and disaster situations.
Organisers emphasised that the course was designed to ensure volunteers are not only technically capable but also mentally resilient and operationally ready to serve the community.
Participants were introduced to a range of modules covering both theoretical and practical aspects of civil defence. These included instruction in rescue techniques, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
The training also incorporated exercises to build teamwork and strengthen discipline, ensuring that members are able to perform effectively under pressure.
Experienced trainers from APM and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) guided the sessions, reflecting the close cooperation between the two agencies.
This collaboration is seen as vital in building a strong and coordinated response framework for Sarawak, particularly in areas prone to natural disasters and emergencies.
Officials noted that the course is expected to produce volunteers who are more competent, disciplined, and ready to be mobilised when required.
By combining classroom learning with hands-on practice, the programme ensures that participants leave with a balanced understanding of both strategy and execution.
The closing ceremony highlighted the achievements of the volunteers and reaffirmed the importance of continuous training.
Organisers praised the dedication shown by participants, stressing that their commitment contributes directly to the safety and well-being of communities across Zone 4.
The Civil Defence Force reiterated its guiding principle of readiness and integrity, reminding members that their role is central to protecting lives and property.
With the successful completion of this course, APM Sarawak continues to strengthen its volunteer base and reinforce its mission of safeguarding the public.
