TANJUNG MANIS – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Tanjung Manis successfully captured a cobra measuring about one metre in length during an operation at Tanjung Manis Baru Housing on the morning of 19 April 2026.
The incident began when APM received an emergency call from residents at 7.33am reporting the presence of a snake within the housing area.
A team of four personnel, accompanied by an ambulance, was immediately dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival, members conducted a careful search of the premises before locating the cobra. Using pinning and baiting techniques, the team managed to secure the reptile safely.
The operation was completed in less than 20 minutes, and no injuries were reported among residents or responding officers.
Following the successful capture, the team returned to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) after confirming that the area was safe.
The swift response demonstrated the preparedness of APM in handling wildlife threats that pose risks to public safety.
Authorities have reminded the public to remain vigilant, particularly in residential areas where encounters with venomous animals can occur unexpectedly.
Residents are strongly advised not to attempt handling such situations themselves but to immediately contact the relevant authorities for assistance.
Snake sightings are not uncommon in Sarawak’s housing estates and rural areas, especially during periods of hot weather when reptiles seek shelter or food sources.
Experts caution that cobras, in particular, are highly venomous and can pose serious danger if provoked.
The Civil Defence Force continues to emphasise its role in safeguarding communities, urging residents to use emergency hotlines promptly when faced with hazardous wildlife.
