JULAU – Emergency responders were dispatched to a rural settlement in the division following reports of a wild reptile venturing dangerously close to a residential structure.
The operation resulted in the safe removal of a python that had appeared directly outside a local longhouse community.
The incident occurred at the Phillip Janting longhouse, situated within the Ulu Bejawai area of Sangkong. Sensing a potential threat to the safety of the residents and domestic animals, a member of the public contacted the authorities to request professional handling of the situation.
The emergency report was directed to the Julau District Civil Defence Force (APM) operations network. In response to the alert, a specialised team from the Charlie Squad was mobilised and sent to the specific longhouse location to manage the wildlife encounter.
Upon reaching the scene, the civil defence personnel immediately carried out a visual search around the perimeter of the structure.
They located the snake positioned right at the front section of the longhouse compound, where it was causing concern among the residents.
Using specialised snake-catching equipment and handling protocols, the trained squad members managed to safely secure the reptile.
The snake was identified as a python measuring approximately one metre in length, which was young but still capable of causing panic.
The extraction operation was completed efficiently without causing any injuries to the longhouse inhabitants or the handlers.
Following the capture, the team transported the python away from the settlement and released it back into its natural jungle habitat, far from human activity.
APM Julau representatives noted that encounters with wild reptiles are common in areas close to forested terrain, especially during transitions in weather.
They commended the longhouse residents for choosing to call for professional assistance rather than attempting to confront or kill the animal themselves.
Public safety officials continue to advise rural communities to keep their surrounding compound clear of overgrown grass and debris, which can attract rodents and the predators that hunt them.
Residents who spot dangerous wildlife on their property are urged to contact emergency services immediately for safe removal.
