KUCHING – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Kuching District spread a little extra warmth yesterday by distributing bubur lambuk to residents in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan.
The initiative aimed to promote unity and compassion in the community while strengthening the bond between APM personnel and local residents.
Bubur lambuk, a traditional porridge commonly shared during Ramadan, has long symbolised generosity and togetherness.
APM Kuching explained that the distribution wasn’t just about giving out food; it was about fostering goodwill and reinforcing the spirit of sharing during this meaningful time of year.
Across Malaysia, it’s a cherished tradition for community groups and organisations to prepare and share bubur lambuk, showing solidarity and care for others.
APM members actively took part in preparing and handing out the porridge, and their efforts were warmly welcomed by the community. Many residents expressed their gratitude for the thoughtful gesture.
“This programme is about more than just sharing food. It’s a way to bring the community together and strengthen the connection between APM and the people we serve. We hope this small contribution brings joy to those who receive it,” said APM Kuching in a statement.
Community food-sharing during Ramadan is a hallmark of Malaysian culture. Mosques, government agencies, and volunteer groups often organise similar events.
Bubur lambuk, prepared in large quantities and shared widely, has a special cultural significance as a symbol of inclusivity and care.
The APM Kuching initiative highlights the organisation’s role beyond emergency response, showcasing its commitment to social welfare and community engagement.
By taking part in such programmes, APM reinforces its presence as a trusted institution that protects and supports the public in meaningful ways.
Residents were reminded that APM Kuching remains available for emergencies and can be reached at 082-252940 or 082-252941, as well as through the national emergency line 999.
As Ramadan continues, similar initiatives are expected throughout Sarawak and across Malaysia, reflecting the enduring tradition of sharing and community spirit during the fasting month.
