MUKAH – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Mukah successfully handled a snake-catching operation on 27 March 2026 after receiving an emergency call from the public.
The incident involved a 2.5-metre batik python discovered inside a chicken cage. Responding officers arrived promptly at the scene and employed the snaring technique to capture the reptile.
The operation was completed without incident, and the area was declared safe shortly afterwards.
APM Mukah confirmed that no injuries or property damage occurred during the intervention. The team highlighted that their swift response ensured the safety of residents and prevented potential harm to livestock.
Officials expressed appreciation to the public for reporting the case quickly, noting that early communication is essential in managing wildlife encounters effectively.
The Civil Defence Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding communities, emphasising that their readiness is reflected in their motto, “APM Mukah, Nang Steady” and “There is a Disaster, Call APM”.
Snake encounters are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where human activity overlaps with natural habitats.
Pythons, while non-venomous, can pose risks to small animals and occasionally to humans if not handled properly.
APM Mukah continues to remind residents to avoid attempting to capture snakes themselves and instead rely on trained personnel.
The organisation also stressed that their hotline remains open around the clock, ensuring that assistance is available whenever emergencies arise. Their work forms part of broader efforts to promote public safety and community resilience across the region.
For emergencies, residents are advised to contact APM Mukah at 084-872814, a 24-hour hotline dedicated to responding to urgent situations.
