APM Sarikei Safely Captures Python in Residential Kitchen

SARIKIEI – The Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarikei successfully handled a snake-catching case on the morning of 6 May 2026 after receiving an emergency call from a resident at Lot 843, Jalan Bunga Raya.

The complainant reported the presence of a python under the kitchen cupboard, raising concerns for the safety of his family.

The Sarikei District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the call at 8.01 am and immediately mobilised four members of Bravo Squad. The team arrived at the residence within ten minutes, equipped with specialised tools for handling reptiles.

Upon arrival, officers carefully assessed the situation before commencing the capture. Using appropriate equipment, the team managed to secure the python, which measured approximately three feet in length.

The operation was completed by 8.24 am, ensuring the reptile was safely removed without causing harm to residents or responders.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. The swift response highlighted the readiness and efficiency of APM Sarikei in dealing with wildlife emergencies, particularly in residential areas where such encounters can pose risks to families.

Officials reminded the public that snakes, including pythons, are commonly found in Sarawak due to its tropical environment.

Residents are advised not to attempt handling snakes themselves, as improper action could endanger both the individual and the animal. Instead, they should immediately contact emergency services for assistance.
