SEBAUH – The Sebauh District Operations Control Centre (PKOD Sebauh) responded to an emergency call on Monday, 11 May 2026, after receiving a report of a fire ant nest at the Ar-Rahman Mosque.
The complaint, lodged by a member of the public, highlighted concerns about the nest located on the side of the mosque.
Due to the potential danger posed to worshippers and visitors, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM Sebauh) was requested to intervene.
A team was immediately dispatched to the site to carry out the operation. Using appropriate equipment and safety measures, the officers successfully destroyed the nest, ensuring that the area was safe for the community.
The operation was completed without incident, and the surroundings were declared secure following the intervention.
Authorities stressed that fire ant nests can pose serious risks, particularly in public spaces such as places of worship.
Their aggressive behaviour when disturbed can lead to painful stings and potential allergic reactions. Prompt reporting of such hazards allows emergency services to act quickly and prevent harm.
APM Sebauh reminded residents that their hotline is available 24 hours a day at 019-2178746 or 086-422634, in addition to the national emergency line at 999.
Officials encouraged the public to use these channels whenever they encounter wildlife or other hazards that may threaten safety.
The Civil Defence Force continues to play a vital role in safeguarding communities across Sarawak, responding to emergencies ranging from road accidents to natural disasters and wildlife encounters. Their readiness and efficiency reflect their commitment to public safety and integrity.
This latest case demonstrates the importance of vigilance and cooperation between residents and emergency services.
By reporting hazards promptly, communities can ensure that risks are managed effectively and that public spaces remain safe for all.
