SPAOH – A python was successfully captured in Kampung Kot, Spaoh, after residents reported the reptile entering a residence on 8 May 2026.
The incident was reported at 5.17 pm when Mr Tera contacted the Spaoh District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) upon spotting the snake.
The Civil Defence Force (APM) immediately dispatched a team led by Sjn (PA) Noriza Binti Japar, supported by three other members of the Charlie Squad.
Upon arrival, the team conducted a search in the area where the reptile was last seen. The python, measuring approximately three feet in length, was discovered beneath a metal shelf in a shop.
Using a snake catcher, the officers secured the reptile and placed it in a venomous animal box for safe transport.
The operation concluded at 6.00pm, with the team returning to PKOD by 6.10pm. The swift response ensured that the snake was removed without harm to residents or property.
The Civil Defence Force highlighted its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”, underscoring its commitment to community safety.
APM Spaoh continues to remind the public to remain vigilant and to report wildlife encounters promptly to avoid unnecessary risks.
Snake sightings in residential areas are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in rural districts where vegetation and storage areas provide shelter for reptiles.
Authorities advise residents to maintain clean surroundings and avoid leaving clutter that may attract snakes.
Emergency services remain accessible through the hotline 999, which covers police, fire, medical, and civil defence assistance. For localised emergencies, residents in Spaoh can also contact APM directly at 083-473006.
This incident reflects the importance of community cooperation and rapid response in ensuring safety. By working closely with residents, APM strengthens its role as a trusted guardian of public welfare in Sarawak’s districts.
