Sarawak Governor Pays Respects at Father’s Grave in Sadong Jaya

SADONG JAYA – His Excellency the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, visited the grave of his late father, Tuanku Jaafar bin Tuanku Sham, at the Islamic Cemetery in Kampung Sadong Jaya on Tuesday morning.

Accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, the Governor was joined by close family members, including his cousin Encik Wan Mahdi bin Wan Mohbar, Sharifah Nong Jasima, her husband Encik Muhammad Nur Hakeem Yusop, and other relatives.

The arrival of Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan was warmly received by several dignitaries and community leaders.

Among those present were YB Datuk Ir. Aidel bin Lariwoo, Sadong Jaya Assemblyman and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure & Port Development; YB Rodiyah binti Sapiee, Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong; Encik Mohamad Irwan bin Bahari Bujang, Resident of Samarahan Division; Ustaz Haji Wan Shaifuddin bin Haji Wan Madihi, Deputy Director (Operations) of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department; and Professor Dr. Firdaus Abdullah, Rector of UiTM Samarahan. Also in attendance were Temenggong Haji Chek bin Bujang and tribal leaders from Samarahan Division.

The Governor was also greeted by long-time acquaintances, including Encik Yakub bin Amran and Tuai Rumah Philip from Kampung Sebangan, who had been his schoolmate in Simunjan.

A brief tahlil prayer was recited at the cemetery, led by Ustaz Dato’ Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Ahmad Fauzi, the Grand Imam of Sarawak. The solemn ceremony allowed the Governor and his family to honour the memory of his late father during the final days of Ramadhan.

Following the visit, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan received a briefing on the proposed upgrade of the Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Sadong Jaya. The presentation was delivered by Mr. Fabian from the Public Works Department, Samarahan Division, alongside Ustaz Bahrin bin Kawi, the Islamic Religious Officer for the division.

The Governor expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasised the importance of preserving and improving community facilities such as cemeteries. He noted that the visit was particularly meaningful as it coincided with the closing days of the holy month, allowing him to reflect with his family.

The event highlighted the Governor’s close ties to Sadong Jaya and his commitment to supporting local initiatives. Community leaders welcomed his presence, viewing it as a gesture of respect and unity that strengthens bonds between the state leadership and the people.
