More than 25,000 people gathered at the Sarawak State Astana in Kuching to celebrate Aidilfitri with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak and Toh Puan.
The event started at 9.00 am and drew a steady crowd throughout the day, with attendance confirmed by the Royal Malaysian Police during a safety and traffic briefing.
By mid-afternoon, the Mobile Control Centre reported the crowd had passed 25,000. The update was shared with Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, Senior Private Secretary to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, who was on-site overseeing the event.
Traffic control remained a major focus due to the scale of the gathering. Police officers were placed at key entry points to keep things moving.
Syed Hamzah thanked the police for managing congestion well, saying their efforts helped visitors arrive and leave without major delays.
The Aidilfitri celebration at the Astana has long been a tradition. It gives the public a chance to celebrate alongside the state’s head of state and reflects Sarawak’s mix of cultures and communities.
Guests were welcomed with open-house hospitality, including traditional food and cultural performances. Many described the atmosphere as warm and friendly, with families and visitors from across Kuching and nearby areas taking part.
Security stayed tight throughout the day. Police confirmed no major incidents, showing strong coordination between organisers and enforcement teams.
As the event wrapped up, officials announced the main gate would close within 30 minutes, bringing the celebration to an end.
The Aidilfitri gathering at the Astana remains one of the most anticipated events in Sarawak, bringing people together and keeping long-standing traditions alive.
