KANOWIT: The Civil Defence Force (APM) Kanowit district successfully apprehended a baby python at Mega Car Accessories in Kanowit on Saturday, 07 March 2026.
At 12:15 pm, the District Operations Control Centre received a report from the complainant, who found the reptile inside a box on a one-way road about one kilometre from the shop. Officers armed with the necessary equipment promptly arrived at the scene.
The snake, a young Sawa Batik python, was around three feet long and weighed some 300 grams. APM members successfully captured the reptile using specialised tongs without any issues. Shortly after the operation, the situation was declared safe and under control.
While pythons are not venomous, they are strong constrictors and can be dangerous to small animals and, on rare occasions, humans. The younger snakes, wildlife experts say, tend to venture into populated areas looking for food or shelter, especially in hot weather.
The same reported bombings also took place in other places in Sarawak. In Sibu, a python was discovered in a chicken coop, and residents of Mukah detected it near the paddy field. Such situations stress the need for vigilance from all citizens and emergency services alike to keep the community safe.
The Civil Defence Force has advised residents not to try to tackle snakes on their own. On the contrary, they ought to call out for help from emergency responders right away.
