BALINGIAN – Residents of Rumah Rami Anak Apit along Jalan Pengkalan Lobang in Sungai Bawan are benefiting from improved parking facilities following the completion of an upgrade project funded through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
The project was implemented using an allocation provided by Selangau Member of Parliament Edwin Banta in 2025. It was intended to improve basic infrastructure and provide greater convenience for residents of the longhouse.
The completed facilities were formally handed over during a ceremony on Thursday, officiated by councillor Binit Madang, who represented Edwin Banta at the event.
Tuai Rumah Rami Apit, representing the longhouse community, expressed appreciation to the MP for providing the allocation that enabled the project to proceed. The funding supported improvements to facilities used by residents in their daily activities.
Parking infrastructure plays a practical role in the daily operations of longhouse communities, where residents may rely on private vehicles to travel for work, education, shopping and access to essential services.
Adequate parking can also help residents manage routine activities and accommodate visitors to the settlement.
The upgraded facilities at Rumah Rami Anak Apit are intended to make parking more convenient for the community.
The project forms part of broader efforts to improve basic infrastructure in rural areas, where local facilities support mobility, accessibility and the day-to-day needs of residents.
Under the Rural Transformation Programme, allocations are channelled towards development projects intended to address local infrastructure requirements.
Such projects may involve improvements to community facilities and other essential amenities, depending on identified needs and available funding.
For rural communities, the completion of relatively localised infrastructure projects can address practical challenges faced by residents.
Their effectiveness depends on the suitability of the improvements, continued maintenance and the ability of the facilities to meet the community’s needs over time.
The handover ceremony marked the completion of the parking upgrade at Rumah Rami Anak Apit. With the facilities now handed over, residents can make use of the improved parking area as part of their daily routines.
The project also highlights the role of cooperation between elected representatives and local communities in identifying infrastructure needs and delivering improvements.
Community feedback and continued engagement can help relevant parties identify other priorities and ensure that future development efforts respond to local requirements.
Although no further details were provided on the project’s total cost, construction specifications or parking capacity, the completed upgrade is expected to improve convenience for residents of the longhouse.
Maintaining the facility will remain important to ensuring its continued usability. The project adds to efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure and improve everyday living conditions for communities in the area. â Sarawak Daily
