Thousands Join “Bandarayaku Berselawat” at Kuching Festival 2025

KUCHING – The spirit of unity and faith filled the air last night as thousands of city residents gathered at the Dewan Majma’ Tunku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Jalan P. Ramlee, Kuching for the much-anticipated “Bandarayaku Berselawat” programme in conjunction with the Kuching Festival 2025.

The religious and cultural event, held on Friday evening (15 August 2025), started at 6.30pm and attracted people from all walks of life who came together to recite selawat, seek blessings, and strengthen bonds within the community.

The programme featured a special lecture by Al Habib Ali Zaenal Abidin Al Kaff (Tauliah No. MIS-004325), whose inspiring words encouraged attendees to embrace faith, kindness, and unity in their daily lives. The evening was also enriched with soulful Mawlid and Qasidah recitations performed by the renowned group Nur Ahli Badar, adding a spiritual and uplifting atmosphere throughout the hall.

The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, who was represented by YB Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed. Also present was Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor, Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, alongside community leaders, religious figures, and representatives from various organisations.

“Bandarayaku Berselawat is not only a religious gathering, but also a reminder that our city’s strength lies in unity and shared values,” said one of the organisers, highlighting the theme of “Smart City of Unity, Embracing a Sustainable Future.”

The programme was organised in collaboration with several agencies and organisations, including the Sarawak Islamic Complex Management, Satok Charitable Trust Board, and Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board, showing strong community partnerships in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly good health, sustainable cities, and partnerships for progress.

Residents expressed their gratitude for such an event, noting that it brought peace, togetherness, and renewed spiritual strength to the community. Many also viewed it as an important cultural celebration that bridges tradition and modern city life.

The night ended with heartfelt prayers, leaving attendees with a sense of unity and hope for the future of Kuching.
