SELANGAU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Selangau District has confirmed that flood monitoring along the Batang Mukah River continues, with water levels showing a gradual decline.
Monitoring was conducted on Monday morning, 12 January 2026, at 10.34 am, using boats to reach low-lying areas and ensure the safety of residents.
Officials reported that several locations, including Rumah Silvester, Rumah Nyarapong, Rumah Chandu, Rumah Bernadette and Rumah Maran, remain affected by low water levels, though the situation is improving.
In contrast, Rumah Awa and other longhouses situated along the riverbanks were found to be unaffected. Authorities stressed that all residents are safe and that the overall situation remains under control.
Flooding along the Batang Mukah River has been a recurring issue during the monsoon season, with longhouse communities often facing road closures and restricted access. Disaster management teams have been actively monitoring conditions to prevent escalation and ensure timely response.
The Civil Defence Force highlighted that continuous surveillance is vital to safeguard communities in flood-prone zones. Teams will remain on duty to provide updates and respond to emergencies as needed.
Residents have been reminded to remain vigilant and to comply with instructions issued by the authorities. The Civil Defence Force has urged the public to contact its 24-hour emergency hotline at 084-891285 for immediate assistance.
