KUCHING – The PETROS Multifuel Station (MFS) Batu Kawa, owned by SEDC Energy (SEDCE), is currently undergoing the testing and commissioning phase for its hydrogen (H₂) refuelling facility, marking a significant milestone in Sarawak’s push to lead the nation in renewable hydrogen infrastructure.

In a statement released by SEDCE, it was confirmed that five Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs)—used by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, and SEDC Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain—will receive their hydrogen supply from the Batu Kawa station during this trial period.

Recently, Dr. Sim Kui Hian visited the site to personally oversee the refuelling process for his Toyota Mirai. The visit also commemorated a historic achievement—Malaysia’s first inter-station green hydrogen delivery on 4 July 2025, which may also be a first within ASEAN.

The Batu Kawa station sources its hydrogen from the Darul Hana H2 plant, located 10km away, using tube trailer delivery. The Darul Hana plant is capable of producing up to 150kg of hydrogen per day, with 120kg transported to Batu Kawa for testing and operational supply.

As Sarawak moves toward becoming a hydrogen economy, the MFS Batu Kawa joins MFS Darul Hana as part of the city’s dual-station hydrogen ecosystem—positioning Kuching among the leading hydrogen-ready cities globally.

Constructed to international safety standards, the flagship Batu Kawa MFS station not only provides hydrogen but also conventional fuels, EV charging facilities, and quick-service restaurants to cater to local communities and travellers alike.

Under the PETROS MFS brand, SEDCE currently manages 10 operational multifuel stations across Sarawak, including locations in Daro, Kanowit, Kuala Matu, Sibu, Selangau, Tatau, Kapit, Sungai Asap, and Jepak. These stations are part of a growing hydrogen-ready infrastructure along the Pan Borneo Highway.

Four new flagship MFS stations—in Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, and Sri Aman—are scheduled, with Bintulu’s Jalan Sultan Iskandar site set to begin construction soon. An additional three MFS are already under construction, and over 40 new sites are in various planning stages across the state.

Once completed, Sarawak will have a robust, multi-fuel and EV infrastructure network, solidifying its role as Malaysia’s clean energy trailblazer.
