KUCHING – Public safety in Batu Kitang is set to be strengthened with the introduction of an AI-powered CCTV surveillance system, funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) with an allocation of RM300,000.
Assemblyman for N13 Batu Kitang, YB Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, conducted an inspection of the project on 5 May to monitor its progress and ensure smooth implementation.
The initiative, known as the AI CCTV Smart Safety Project, will cover six strategic locations across the constituency, providing enhanced monitoring capabilities to safeguard residents and visitors.
The system integrates artificial intelligence technology to improve surveillance efficiency, enabling real-time analysis and quicker response to potential threats.
By deploying AI-driven monitoring, the project aims to reduce crime risks, strengthen community confidence, and support law enforcement efforts.
Dato Ir Lo explained that the RTP allocation reflects the government’s commitment to investing in modern infrastructure that directly benefits the community.
He emphasised that safety remains a priority, and the introduction of advanced surveillance technology is a proactive step towards creating a secure environment.
Community members have welcomed the initiative, noting that the presence of AI-enabled CCTV will not only deter criminal activity but also provide valuable evidence in the event of incidents.
The project is expected to enhance overall neighbourhood security, particularly in high-traffic and vulnerable areas.
The RTP scheme has long been recognised as a mechanism for delivering grassroots development projects across Sarawak.
From infrastructure upgrades to community facilities, the programme channels resources into initiatives that improve daily life and foster stronger community resilience.
Dato Ir Lo reiterated that the AI CCTV Smart Safety Project is part of a broader strategy to modernise public safety infrastructure in Batu Kitang.
He expressed confidence that the system would deliver tangible benefits, ensuring that residents feel safer and more protected in their surroundings.
The inspection highlighted the importance of monitoring project implementation to guarantee that resources are utilised effectively.
With collaboration between government representatives, contractors, and local stakeholders, the AI CCTV initiative is expected to be completed efficiently and provide long-term value to the community.
