Batu Kitang Leaders Strengthen Ties with Police to Boost Community Safety

KUCHING: Efforts to improve community safety in Batu Kitang received a boost today as Batu Kitang assemblyman YB Dato Ir. Lo Khere Chiang welcomed Sarawak’s top crime watch and community safety officials for a working visit at the Pusat Khidmat Batu Kitang.

The delegation was led by SAC Dr. Parusuraman Subramaniam, the Head of the Crime Investigation and Community Safety Department (Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti) at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK Sarawak), accompanied by his senior officers.

The meeting, held this afternoon, centred on discussions to strengthen cooperation between the police force, community leaders, and local residents. The engagement also highlighted the importance of proactive community policing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Batu Kitang residents.

YB Lo said the visit reflected the strong partnership between elected representatives and the police in addressing crime prevention and safety matters. “We must work together to keep our communities safe. This collaboration between the police, leaders, and residents is vital in reducing crime and strengthening trust among the people,” he said.

Dr. Parusuraman also reaffirmed the police’s commitment to community-based safety strategies. He stressed that continuous cooperation with local leaders would help improve response times, build public confidence, and create a safer environment for everyone.

Both parties agreed to reinforce joint initiatives such as crime watch programmes, community engagement activities, and awareness campaigns to educate residents on crime prevention measures.

The engagement was described as fruitful, with both sides expressing appreciation for the opportunity to share views and strengthen working relationships.

“Our heartfelt appreciation goes to SAC Dr. Parusuraman and his dedicated team for their strong commitment and collaboration in ensuring the safety of Batu Kitang,” added YB Lo.

The session concluded with a shared pledge to keep community safety as a top priority and to continue working hand in hand to protect the lives and properties of residents in the constituency.
