KUCHING, May 21 — Around 200 residents attended the N.11 Batu Lintang Mobile Service Programme held at Hui Sing Hawker Centre on Thursday evening, reflecting strong community interest in government assistance schemes and welfare support services.
The programme, which took place from 4pm to 7pm, was organised under the leadership of SUPP Batu Lintang chairman Sih Hua Tong together with his service team, in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
Residents from various backgrounds visited the programme to seek guidance, submit applications, and obtain more information regarding several assistance initiatives introduced by the government. Among the services offered during the event were the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS), Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (SKSSR), Kenyalang Gold Card, and the Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB).
The Housewives’ Social Security Scheme attracted considerable attention from women aged 55 and below who wanted to understand the protection and benefits available for housewives under the national social security system. Meanwhile, senior citizens also took the opportunity to inquire about the Kenyalang Gold Card and healthcare assistance available through SCHB.
Speaking during the programme, Sih expressed appreciation to his team members for their dedication and commitment in assisting members of the public throughout the event. He said community outreach programmes such as the mobile service initiative are important in ensuring residents are aware of the aid and welfare support available to them.
According to him, many residents still require assistance when it comes to understanding application procedures and eligibility requirements for various schemes. Through direct engagement sessions like this, the public can receive immediate guidance and clarification from officers and volunteers on-site.
The programme also received support from local community leaders, including Sungai Maong JKKK leader Freda Chai, who attended together with several other community representatives.
Residents welcomed the initiative and described it as helpful, especially for senior citizens and individuals who may face difficulties accessing information online or travelling to government offices for assistance.
The successful turnout at the Hui Sing Hawker Centre once again highlighted the importance of grassroots programmes in strengthening communication between community leaders, government agencies, and the public. Organisers hope similar programmes can continue in the future to provide easier access to welfare assistance and essential government services for residents in the Batu Lintang area.
