BAU – Police in Bau have confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man suspected of involvement in drug abuse and possession.
The arrest was carried out on 8 May 2026 at around 6.00pm in Bau town by officers from the district’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Section, supported by members of the Bau District BPJKK IPD.
During the operation, police discovered four plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu.
The suspect was taken into custody under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which covers possession of prohibited substances.
An initial urine screening revealed the suspect tested positive for drugs. As a result, he was also detained under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which addresses drug consumption offences.
Bau District Police Chief, Pisupt Mohd Haide bin A. Rahman, stated that the arrest reflects the police’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug-related crimes in the district. He emphasised that any involvement in drug abuse will be dealt with firmly under the law.
Drug abuse remains a pressing issue across Sarawak, with authorities frequently highlighting its impact on communities.
Enforcement agencies continue to conduct targeted operations in towns and rural areas to disrupt supply chains and reduce the prevalence of narcotics.
