KUCHING — The Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD Bau), through its Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT), issued 38 summonses for various traffic offences during a special motorcycle operation in Bau town on Sunday night.

Bau District Police Chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the operation was conducted from 6.00pm until midnight, targeting offences that threaten road safety. The enforcement also led to the detention of six motorcycles under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“Among the 38 summonses issued, the highest number was for modifying vehicle structures without approval, which recorded 14 cases. This was followed by eight cases of non-compliant registration numbers, seven for riding without side mirrors, and another seven for riding without a valid driving licence.
“One motorcyclist was caught for failing to display the ‘P’ licence plate, and another for failing to display the ‘L’ licence plate,” he said in a statement today.

The operation, involving two officers and six police personnel, also covered patrols and enforcement along the Bau–Batu Kawa Road.
In total, police inspected 56 motorcycles and checked 64 individuals.
DSP Dr Daram reminded all road users, especially motorcyclists, to obey traffic laws at all times and to prioritise personal safety.

“We urge parents to closely monitor their children and ensure they do not participate in illegal motorcycling activities. These activities not only endanger the riders themselves but also other road users,” he stressed.
The Bau Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division also welcomes public information on illegal street racing or dangerous riding. Members of the public can contact the IPD Bau hotline at 082-763311 to assist in curbing such activities.
