ASAJAYA – Firefighters continued monitoring a bush fire at Kampung Moyan Ulu here on Wednesday after a fire break helped prevent the blaze from spreading further.
The latest development follows the earlier incident involving a bush fire that affected about seven acres in the area.
Firefighters were again deployed to the location on 9 September to assess the condition of the site and determine whether further firefighting action was required.
Personnel from the Asajaya Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location with an LFRT Atego fire appliance as part of the monitoring operation.
The operation was led by PBK I Abg Othman Abg Sharbini, while PBK II Sajali Hj Apet served as the machinery driver.
Three other personnel, PBK II Federick Janting Ak Sabidol, PBB Fattol Lilah Daut and PBB Mohd Faizal Ghazali, were also involved.
Based on their assessment, the firefighters found that there was no further spread of the bush fire at the time of the operation.
A fire break had also been established at the site, helping to prevent the fire from extending into surrounding vegetation.
As there was no indication of active spread, the firefighters did not carry out extinguishing operations. Instead, the team maintained surveillance of the affected area and continued to assess whether conditions could change.
The incident reporter was also informed to alert the authorities should there be any indication that the fire had begun spreading again.
After confirming that there were no signs of further fire activity posing an immediate threat, the operation was brought to an end. The firefighters subsequently returned to the Asajaya station.
However, monitoring of the location is set to continue from time to time as a precaution.
The latest assessment marks a change from the earlier stage of the incident, when the bush fire had affected an estimated seven acres.
The establishment of a fire break has since provided a measure of containment, reducing the immediate risk of the flames spreading through connected vegetation.
Fire behaviour can change depending on factors including weather, vegetation and ground conditions. For that reason, firefighters continued to keep the area under observation even after no active firefighting was considered necessary.
No injuries were reported in the latest operational update, and there was no indication of further property damage.
The response was carried out by the Asajaya Fire and Rescue Station under the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.
Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the area for any renewed fire activity. Residents in the surrounding area can assist by reporting any visible signs of smoke, flames or renewed spreading promptly.
The latest operation therefore concludes the immediate firefighting response at Kampung Moyan Ulu, while monitoring remains in place following the earlier seven-acre bush fire.
