Miri Police Arrest Five Suspects Over Bekenu Fight Incident

MIRI – Police in Miri have opened an investigation into a fight that occurred in Bekenu, which recently went viral on social media.

The incident is being probed under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

Acting on intelligence, officers arrested five suspects, comprising three local men and two foreign nationals, to assist in the investigation. Several weapons believed to have been used during the altercation were also seized.

Two of the suspects are currently being remanded at the Miri Central Police Station lockup until 19 April 2026. Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken once evidence is reviewed.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee bin Abdullah stressed that the authorities take such incidents seriously.

He issued a stern warning that violent acts, rioting, and carrying dangerous weapons in public places are offences that will result in legal consequences.

The police have urged the public to exercise self-control and avoid behaviour that could escalate into conflict or unrest. Community members are reminded that maintaining peace and order is a shared responsibility.
