DEBAK – Dato Dr. Richard Rapu, the Member of Parliament for Betong, visited Saribas National Secondary School (SMK Saribas) on Friday to assess a plan to build a waiting area for parents.
The Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) of SMK Saribas brought up the idea, emphasising the need for a special area to enhance parent convenience and safety, especially during busy school hours. In order to evaluate the project’s viability, the Betong District Council accompanied the visit.
According to Dato Dr. Richard, the survey’s objectives were to determine the facilities needed to guarantee the waiting room satisfies community needs and to assess the proposed location’s suitability. He emphasised that the project would improve general safety and lessen traffic around the school grounds.
“The initiative to provide a waiting room for parents is important to create a more organised and community-friendly school environment, in addition to helping to reduce congestion and safety risks in the school area,” he said.
He added that the plan is part of a larger effort to improve Betong’s educational infrastructure. The school environment can be made more favourable for learning and community involvement by offering parents a cosy and secure space.
Dato Dr Richard expressed hope that the project could be realised through cooperation between government agencies, the school, and the local community. He emphasised that collaborative efforts are essential to ensure the well-being of students, parents, and teachers alike.
The idea for a parent waiting area is a component of continuous initiatives to upgrade Sarawakian schools’ facilities. These programs are thought to be essential for promoting education, encouraging community involvement, and establishing safer, better-organized family environments.
In addition to being a useful space, the waiting area would represent SMK Saribas’ dedication to diversity and community support. If accepted, the project might serve as a model for similar programs in other Betong-area schools.
