32 Betong Groups Secure MRP Funding for Community Programs

BETONG – Thirty-two government-linked clubs and associations in the Betong Parliament constituency received critical funding through the Small Rural Project (MRP) initiative today, bolstering social welfare programs and community development projects across the region.

At a cheque presentation ceremony held at the Betong Parliament Service Center, Member of Parliament Dato Dr. Richard Rapu emphasized the allocation’s role in sustaining vital grassroots initiatives. “This annual support empowers organizations driving social, recreational, and developmental activities,” he stated, acknowledging that while state assembly representatives provide larger contributions, his funding serves as “added value to smooth operational needs.”

The distributed MRP funds transcend mere financial aid according to Dr. Rapu, who described them as “moral encouragement” for community leaders shaping Betong’s social fabric. Recipients – comprising chairpersons and representatives of local associations – expressed gratitude for the timely support, noting its essential role in ensuring planned activities proceed uninterrupted.

The strategic injection targets clubs and agencies actively engaged in local welfare projects, reinforcing Betong’s commitment to bottom-up development. Dr. Rapu highlighted the collaborative nature of such funding, stating it complements existing state-level support while addressing specific operational gaps faced by community organizations.

This latest distribution continues Betong Parliament’s longstanding practice of channeling resources directly to civil society groups, reflecting a dedicated approach to strengthening community-led development across Sarawak’s rural heartland.
