LAWAS – The Building Inclusive Community (BIC) 5.0 programme, organised by Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM Sarawak) in collaboration with the Lawas District Office and supported by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), was successfully held in Lawas from 13 to 14 December 2025.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Lawas Member of Parliament Dato’ Henry Sum Agong, representing the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
In his address, he stressed that sustainable development must directly benefit communities, particularly those in rural and border areas such as Lawas.
He explained that initiatives like BIC serve as strategic platforms to engage with local communities, understand their realities and challenges, and ensure that Sarawak’s development agenda is implemented inclusively and effectively.
Dato’ Henry highlighted that this approach aligns with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which not only prioritises economic growth but also focuses on social well-being, human capital development, and equitable access to opportunities.
Themed “Leaving No One Behind”, the programme attracted 70 participants, including community and tribal leaders, government agency representatives, youth, local entrepreneurs, and non-governmental organisations.
Throughout the two-day event, discussions and activities centred on strengthening inclusivity, empowering local communities, and fostering collaboration between stakeholders.
The programme underscored the importance of ensuring that development policies reach all levels of society, particularly those in remote regions.
The BIC 5.0 initiative reflects Sarawak’s broader commitment to inclusive growth, ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in the state’s journey towards sustainable development.
