Bank Islam Hands RM915,000 Business Zakat to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak

KUCHINGBank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) has contributed RM915,000 in business zakat to the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) for the financial year 2024, reaffirming its commitment to community welfare and corporate social responsibility.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Premier’s Office, Sri Pertiwi Complex on Friday, witnessed by Sarawak Premier, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

The zakat handover was officiated by Dato’ Mohd Muazzam Mohamad, BIMB Group Chief Executive Officer, who presented the contribution to Datu Haji Abg Mohd Shibli Abg Haji Mohd Nailie, General Manager of TBS.

The ceremony also marked a courtesy call by BIMB to the Premier, underscoring the bank’s role in supporting Sarawak’s socio-economic development through zakat contributions.

Senior officials from both organisations were present, including Mohd Yusree Mohd Zain, TBS Head of Operations Sector; Mohd Nazri Chik, BIMB Group Chief Financial and Social Officer; Sharifah Sarah Syed Mohamad Tahir, BIMB Group Chief Business Officer; Kameri Edi, BIMB East Malaysia Regional Director; and Ahmad Herni Benjamin, BIMB Sarawak State Director.

The zakat contribution is expected to strengthen TBS’s capacity in funding welfare programmes, community development initiatives, and assistance schemes for those in need across Sarawak.

Dato’ Mohd Muazzam highlighted that the annual zakat payment reflects BIMB’s responsibility to support social and economic empowerment, particularly in line with Islamic financial principles.

He noted that such contributions are part of the bank’s broader mission to balance business growth with community wellbeing.

Meanwhile, Datu Haji Abg Mohd Shibli expressed appreciation for the support, emphasising that the funds will be channelled towards programmes that directly benefit the people of Sarawak.

The Premier’s presence at the ceremony symbolised the state government’s recognition of the importance of corporate contributions in complementing public initiatives.

Officials noted that partnerships between financial institutions and welfare agencies remain vital in ensuring inclusive development.

With this latest contribution, BIMB continues to demonstrate its commitment to corporate social responsibility, reinforcing its role as a key partner in Sarawak’s welfare and development agenda.
