MERADONG – The Bintangor Powerboat Race 2025 drew hundreds of spectators to the Bintagor Riverbank on Sunday, marking its growing role as a platform for youth development and tourism promotion in Sarawak.
The event showcased thrilling water sports while simultaneously highlighting Bintangor’s potential as a hub for recreational and adventure activities.
Local communities, traders and associations were actively involved, creating a lively atmosphere that combined competition with economic opportunities.
Meradong State Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, who attended the race, described the competition as more than just an extreme sporting event.
He emphasised its strategic importance in positioning Bintangor as a preferred destination for water sports and recreational tourism.
“This programme aims to strengthen the development of water sports, attract tourists, and boost the local economy,” he said.
The race also provided young participants with valuable exposure to extreme sports, helping them build confidence, resilience and practical skills.
Organisers noted that such events encourage youth to engage in healthy, challenging activities while fostering teamwork and discipline.
Local traders benefited from the influx of visitors, with stalls offering food, drinks and souvenirs along the riverbank.
The involvement of community groups underscored the festival’s wider impact, ensuring that the benefits extended beyond the sporting arena.
Observers highlighted that the event’s success could pave the way for more water sports competitions in the future.
By establishing Bintangor as a destination for such activities, the town is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, strengthening its profile within Sarawak’s tourism landscape.
The Bintangor Powerboat Race 2025 has therefore become a catalyst for broader development, combining youth empowerment with economic growth.
Its role in promoting cultural and recreational tourism reflects Sarawak’s wider strategy of diversifying attractions and supporting local communities.
As the event concluded, Datuk Ding reiterated his hope that Bintangor would continue to host similar programmes, reinforcing its reputation as a centre for sports, recreation and tourism in the years ahead.
