RM200,000 RTP Fund Supports Blessed Church Car Park Project

KUCHING – The Blessed Church in Kuching has completed a new car park facility following financial support from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) Fund, which contributed RM200,000 towards the project.

The car park, valued at more than RM1 million, is now fully operational and serving the congregation and wider community. The initiative is seen as a step forward in improving accessibility and safety for worshippers and visitors attending religious services and community events.

Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, emphasised the importance of creating a sustainable and comfortable environment for vehicles. He explained that such infrastructure plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and convenience of users, particularly during large gatherings.

“The RTP allocation is given to support the development of community infrastructure regardless of background, for the benefit of the people,” he said during the event on Sunday.

He further highlighted that inclusive development remains a priority, with continued focus on expanding public facilities across Sarawak. The RTP Fund, introduced by the Sarawak government, has been widely used to support local projects aimed at improving community welfare, ranging from road upgrades to recreational facilities.

The completion of the Blessed Church car park also reflects the strong collaboration between elected representatives and community institutions. Such partnerships are considered essential in advancing sustainable development and ensuring that projects meet the needs of local residents.

Church members expressed optimism that the new facility would enhance their experience during services and community programmes. With improved parking space, organisers expect smoother coordination of events and greater participation from the public.

The project is one of many examples of how RTP funding has been channelled into grassroots development. In recent years, similar allocations have supported rural road construction, drainage systems, and community halls, reinforcing the government’s commitment to balanced growth across urban and rural areas.

Also present at the ceremony were several dignitaries, including Minul Islam Rony, CEO of Sarawak Daily, who joined community leaders and church representatives in marking the completion of the project.

The Blessed Church car park stands as a symbol of how targeted funding can deliver tangible benefits to local communities, while strengthening ties between government initiatives and grassroots institutions.
