According to Miri Division Resident, Galong Luang, the programme covers northern Sarawak parliamentary constituencies including Miri, Baram, Limbang, and Lawas.

He said the initiative is designed to bring government leaders directly to the ground to hear concerns from communities across Borneo.

“This programme is meant to understand the real needs of the people of Sabah and Sarawak and ensure that the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is shaped around local realities,” he explained during a coordination meeting organised by the Ministry of Economy on Monday.

Through the Borneo Linkage platform, input from interior villages, coastal areas, and smaller towns will be presented at the national level.

The aim, Galong said, is to ensure that development policies are comprehensive, inclusive, and not just theoretical commitments.

Among the programme’s core objectives are:

  • making people’s voices the foundation for preparing the 13MP,
  • demonstrating the government’s readiness to listen directly,
  • and countering the perception that Borneo only receives attention on paper.

The Miri leg of the tour will be led by Deputy Minister of Economy, Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, and hosted at the Miri Stadium parking area.

Two main sessions are planned: the 13MP engagement session with federal, state, and local administrations from both Sarawak and Sabah, followed by the Borneo Linkage Session involving industry players, NGOs, academics, youth groups, and the wider public.

Miri is the fourth and final destination in Sarawak for the tour, which has already engaged communities in other divisions before shifting focus to Sabah.
