BINTULU – Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) has contributed RM802.3 million in dividends to the Sarawak State Financial Secretary and Equisar Assets Sdn. Bhd., with the company citing continued operational activity as a key contributor to its financial returns.
Sarawak State Secretary and BPHB chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the dividend contribution reflected the company’s role in supporting Sarawak’s trade activities and broader economic development.
He said Biport Bulkers, one of the group’s operations, continues to handle about four million tonnes of cargo annually. This volume represents approximately 25 per cent of Sarawak’s total exports, according to the company.
The port group has also been pursuing diversification in its operations. Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar said BPHB launched the Regional Halal Hub in July in collaboration with the Sarawak Halal Industry Development Council.
He said the initiative was intended to create additional avenues for trade while expanding the range of activities supported through the port’s operations.
“In terms of operations, we launched the Regional Halal Hub last July in collaboration with the Sarawak Halal Industry Development Council, thereby opening new avenues for trade diversification.
“This operational strength has translated into robust financial returns, specifically the dividend contribution of RM802.3 million to the Sarawak State Financial Secretary and Equisar Assets Sdn. Bhd.,” he said.
He was speaking at the BPHB Appreciation Ceremony in Bintulu on Monday night.
Looking ahead, BPHB is targeting higher cargo handling capacity while also strengthening initiatives related to sustainable port operations, as part of efforts to expand its activities.
Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar said continued cooperation among employees, management, business partners and other stakeholders would be important as the company seeks to develop new opportunities.
He also highlighted the longer-term objective of establishing Bintulu Port as a premier port by 2030, linking the port’s development with Sarawak’s wider trade and economic ambitions.
The chairman also called on staff and stakeholders to support BPHB’s new chief executive officer as the company moves into its next phase of operations.
He said collective efforts would be needed to strengthen Bintulu Port’s role in facilitating trade and contributing to Sarawak’s economic growth.
The latest dividend contribution comes as BPHB continues to focus on cargo capacity, trade diversification and sustainability alongside its existing port operations.
The company has not provided further details on the targeted increase in cargo handling capacity or specific timelines for the planned sustainability initiatives.
