BRS-Giam Assar Road Upgrade to Enhance Connectivity by 2026

PADAWAN – The long-awaited BRS/Jambusan to Kampung Giam Assar Road Upgrading Project has officially commenced, promising improved connectivity and safer travel for residents in the area.

The project, implemented under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) for DUN N.19 Mambong, carries an allocation of RM100,000. It was formally launched during a site handover ceremony on Thursday, officiated by Keron Mapus, Special Administrative Officer to the Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Air and Road).

Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025 and is expected to be fully completed by February 2026. Once finished, the upgraded road will serve as a vital link for the people of Kampung Giam Assar and neighbouring communities, improving access to essential services, schools, and markets.

The initiative is part of Sarawak’s broader commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure under the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which prioritises balanced development between urban and rural areas.

According to state leaders, road projects such as this are crucial in bridging the connectivity gap and ensuring that rural communities are not left behind.

Local residents have long relied on the existing road, which has faced challenges during heavy rain and peak travel periods. The upgrade is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel disruptions, and provide greater comfort for daily commuters.

Beyond transport convenience, the project is also anticipated to support socio-economic growth by enabling smoother movement of agricultural produce and small-scale goods to nearby towns. Improved road conditions are expected to benefit farmers, traders, and schoolchildren who depend on reliable access routes.

The Sarawak government has consistently highlighted the importance of Rural Transformation Projects (RTPs) in uplifting local communities. Since its introduction, RTP funding has been channelled into small but impactful projects such as road upgrades, drainage improvements, and community facilities across constituencies.

Speaking at the ceremony, Keron Mapus reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that rural infrastructure continues to receive attention. He noted that the BRS–Giam Assar project reflects the state’s determination to deliver tangible improvements that directly benefit the people.

With the project now underway, residents of Kampung Giam Assar can look forward to a more reliable and safer road network by early 2026, marking another step forward in Sarawak’s rural development agenda.
