SIBU – A coordination meeting was convened on Monday, 23 February 2026, to finalise arrangements for the Class B2 Driver’s Licence Assistance Programme (BLM) in the Bukit Assek constituency. The session took place at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sibu branch meeting room.
The meeting was chaired by Tuan Jelapin Entalai, Head of the JPJ Sibu Branch. Also in attendance was Tuan Yusniman Mohammad, Head of the Driver Licensing Division at JPJ Sarawak, along with representatives from the Resident’s Office, District Office, Service Centre N.51 Bukit Assek, the Information Department, the Civil Defence Force, and Suria Driving Academy.
Discussions centred on programme logistics, committee appointments, and the overall implementation strategy. The gathering aimed to ensure that all stakeholders were aligned and prepared for the smooth rollout of the initiative.
The Class B2 Driver’s Licence Assistance Programme is a government-backed effort designed to support eligible individuals in obtaining motorcycle licences at a reduced cost. By lowering financial barriers, the scheme seeks to improve mobility, enhance employment opportunities, and strengthen economic participation among local residents.
Officials highlighted that the programme is particularly beneficial for young people and those from lower-income backgrounds, as access to affordable transport can significantly improve daily life and job prospects. Motorcycles remain a vital mode of transport in Sarawak, especially in semi-urban and rural areas where public transport options are limited.
The meeting also underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies, local service centres, and driving academies. By working together, organisers hope to streamline the registration process, provide clear guidance to applicants, and ensure that training sessions are conducted efficiently.
Community representatives expressed optimism that the initiative would not only ease financial burdens but also encourage safer driving practices. With proper training and licensing, participants are expected to contribute to improved road safety standards in the region.
The BLM programme has been introduced in several constituencies across Sarawak, reflecting the state government’s commitment to expanding access to essential services. Bukit Assek’s inclusion marks another step towards broader coverage, ensuring that more communities benefit from the scheme.
As preparations move forward, organisers remain confident that the programme will deliver meaningful outcomes. The coordination meeting concluded with a shared commitment to ensuring that the initiative is implemented effectively and that residents of Bukit Assek gain lasting advantages from the support provided.
