KAPIT – Victims of a recent fire in Kampung Baru, Jalan Abang Sulaihi have received immediate assistance from Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Bumiputera Law and Customs) and Bukit Goram Assemblyman.

The incident, which occurred on 14 March, destroyed a semi-permanent house and caused damage to the Jamek Kampung Baru Mosque, with around 20 percent of its roof affected.

During his site visit on Tuesday, Jefferson presented RM2,000 in financial aid to the affected family as an immediate relief measure.

He urged relevant parties to expedite repair works so that residents could resume normal activities without prolonged disruption.

The financial assistance and mosque renovation grant reflect the government’s commitment to supporting rural communities in times of hardship.

Leaders have highlighted that such initiatives not only provide material relief but also strengthen community resilience and solidarity.

Residents welcomed the aid, noting that the mosque plays a central role in community life. The allocation for repairs is expected to restore the building’s function as a place of worship and gathering, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of local unity.

The visit underscored the importance of responsive leadership in addressing emergencies and ensuring that affected families receive timely support.

By combining immediate relief with long-term infrastructure assistance, the initiative demonstrates a balanced approach to community welfare in Kapit.
