Car Fire Destroys Sedan in Desa Ilmu, No Injuries Reported

Car Fire Destroys Sedan in Desa Ilmu, No Injuries Reported

KOTA SAMARAHAN, May 3 – A late-night car fire in Desa Ilmu left a sedan completely destroyed but thankfully caused no injuries, according to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

The incident happened around 10.47pm when Bomba received an emergency call. A team from the Kota Samarahan fire station was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the car fully engulfed in flames.

“Firefighters confirmed that the fire only involved the sedan, and it was already 100 per cent destroyed by the time they arrived. They managed to control and fully extinguish the blaze shortly after,” Bomba said in a statement.

No injuries or casualties were reported, and the team returned to the station after ensuring the area was safe and free from further danger.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This incident comes just weeks after Bomba Sarawak director Jamri Masran highlighted a worrying trend in the state. He stated that the leading cause of vehicle fires was often linked to illegal modifications to a car’s electrical wiring systems. Such modifications, often done without proper safety standards, increase the risk of fire and pose a danger not only to drivers but also to surrounding communities.

Vehicle owners are reminded to avoid unauthorised electrical upgrades and to regularly service their vehicles to prevent such incidents.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the fire to come forward.

This fire serves as a stark reminder of how quickly such incidents can escalate and why fire safety awareness remains crucial.
