Car Engulfed in Flames in Kampung Pujut, No Injuries Reported

MIRI, Nov 7 – A car was completely destroyed after it caught fire late last night in Kampung Pujut, Tanjung Batu. The incident, which occurred around 11.14pm, prompted an immediate response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

According to a spokesperson from the department’s Operations Centre (PGO), a distress call was received at 11.14pm, alerting firefighters from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station (BBP). A team was swiftly deployed and arrived at the scene just four minutes later.

“The fire involved the entire vehicle, resulting in a total loss with 100 percent destruction,” the spokesperson said in a statement issued today.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control using a single flow of water from a mechanical pump. The flames were fully extinguished within half an hour, and the operation concluded at about 11.45pm.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the total amount of damage sustained. While the exact circumstances remain unclear, early indications suggest the fire spread rapidly before the fire brigade’s arrival.

Residents nearby reported hearing crackling sounds followed by a bright blaze lighting up the night sky before firefighters arrived to douse the flames.

The swift response from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures or endangering nearby residents.

JBPM reminded the public to ensure regular vehicle maintenance and to avoid leaving flammable materials inside cars, as such negligence could lead to similar dangerous situations.
