BINTULU – Four men were injured in an early morning accident when the Perodua Aruz they were travelling in skidded and overturned at Kilometer 16 of the Pan-Borneo Bintulu-Miri Highway today.
The Sarawak Operations Centre reported that the accident occurred at around 8:42 am, prompting an immediate response from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (BBP Bintulu). Emergency personnel arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the distress call.
Upon arrival, the fire brigade discovered the vehicle had veered off the road and landed on the shoulder. Three of the victims had managed to exit the vehicle on their own, while one remained trapped inside.
A spokesperson from the rescue team stated, “The fire brigade immediately applied a cervical collar to stabilise the trapped victim and carefully extricated him using a spinal board.”
Emergency medical assistance was swiftly provided. Two of the injured victims were transported to the hospital using public vehicles before the arrival of medical teams, while the other two were sent via a KKM ambulance.
The extent of their injuries is yet to be confirmed, but all victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident, which is believed to involve the vehicle losing control and skidding off the road. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when road conditions may be more hazardous.
This accident highlights the importance of adhering to traffic safety regulations and ensuring vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys along major highways like the Pan-Borneo Highway.
